Sydnee Mcilvaine joined the HDSA New Jersey Chapter in January 2023 as an undergraduate student at Rutgers University studying genetics. Sydnee’s active involvement in the chapter was evident from the start as she assumed the role of co-chair of the Youth Outreach Committee and took charge of managing the chapter’s social media presence. Sydnee has been a consistent volunteer at chapter events, making significant contributions. During the first annual Tee Off Fore HD Topgolf event in February, Sydnee efficiently managed the raffle/auction area, securing additional funds that helped the event exceed its budgeted goal. Additionally, she helped contribute to the success of the Jersey Shore 5K & Team Hope Walk by serving on the event committee and spearheading the chapter’s social media campaigns to engage the local community. Sydnee’s commitment and organizational skills led her to assume the role of Chapter Secretary, where she ensures that the agenda is promptly published and the Meeting Minutes are distributed in a timely manner following each call.
In May, Sydnee graduated from Rutgers University where she was also a member of the Seeing Eye Puppy Raising Club. Earlier this month, Sydnee attended the HDSA Annual Convention in Spokane, Washington as the New Jersey Chapter’s representative, helping to bring back important updates on research, advocacy, and youth and young adult services back to the local NJ community. This fall, Sydnee will begin her master’s program in Genetic Counseling at Kean University in New Jersey, where she will continue her passion for HD care.
Thank you for your exemplary leadership, Sydnee!
