Southern Idaho volunteer, Sarah Weber, has been an incredible leader and advocate for HDSA and the HDSA Southern Idaho Affiliate for many years, including leading as the current Team Hope Walk Boise Event Chair. She has brought leadership and creativity to this Affiliate and has helped build a wonderful community for HD patients and their families.
In 2007 Sarah’s family found out that HD was in the family genetics after her maternal uncle was diagnosed with HD. This solved the mystery of what had afflicted her grandfather before he died. The family siblings got tested, with four out of the six texting positive for HD. One of the siblings who tested positive was Sarah’s mom, Nancy.
Sarah has not been tested yet, but a few years after her mom tested positive, she decided it was time to get involved with a support group in order to learn more, and hopefully demystify this family affliction.
“Getting involved with the Southern Idaho support group was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. Not only did it introduce me to an incredible group of people, but it also showed me how gracefully, and with such purpose, someone with HD can continue to live. I’ve been inspired by countless HD community members, and have learned more than I ever thought possible not only about HD, but about being both strong and vulnerable at once.”
Sarah had been a busy ambassador of HDSA and the HD community raising funds, providing education opportunities for the HD community, and engaging volunteers. We’re so thankful to have her as a part of the HDSA family.
