Over three years ago, Ramona Mead reached out to HDSA with a simple yet powerful goal: to bring the mission of HDSA to Montana. What began as a single inquiry has grown into a vibrant community making a meaningful impact across the state. “I didn’t know HD was in my family history until late in 2020. Since then, I’ve worked hard to learn as much as I can and advocate for my mom and myself,” Ramona shared. Her dedication to understanding the disease and supporting her family has made her a powerful voice in the HD community.
With the steadfast support of her family, friends, and local businesses, Ramona has brought together a new community and planning committee that is now in its third year of hosting the annual HDSA Team Hope Bozeman 5K, an event that unites families, care teams, and supporters from across the state. Thanks to its continued success in raising funds and awareness, Montana now has its very own HDSA Social Worker, Nancy (nmccourt@hdsa.org), who offers local families essential support and guidance.
“Living in Montana with HD can feel isolating,” Ramona reflected. “I’m so grateful to HDSA for providing support here and raising awareness especially since I had no idea how many HD families were in the state before I got involved.” Through her efforts, Ramona has illuminated the needs of families in her state, creating a sense of community and connection through the Team Hope program.
Ramona’s story is a powerful reminder of how one person’s dedication can create lasting change through volunteerism and community engagement. Thank you, Ramona, for all you’ve done to turn your initial inquiry into a growing, supportive network of hope that is reshaping the landscape of HD support in Montana!
