The Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) is excited to recognize John Stevens for all his amazing work with the New Jersey Chapter. Since joining the chapter board in 2023, John has made a remarkable impact in a short amount of time. He was key in organizing the chapter’s First Annual Tee Off Fore HD event in 2024, which not only hit but surpassed its fundraising goals. John has also been a passionate advocate for the Huntington’s disease community, helping to secure a proclamation from Governor Murphy that officially designates May as Huntington’s Disease Awareness Month in New Jersey. On top of that, he has teamed up with other chapter board members to share his personal HD story with first-year medical students at Rutgers University, raising awareness among the next generation of healthcare professionals.

When the Vice President position opened up last year, John stepped in without hesitation, ensuring a seamless leadership transition by working closely with the outgoing president. This year, he was elected President of the chapter, and he is already busy planning the Second Annual Tee Off for HD event on March 9th. His dedication and leadership continue to inspire everyone around him, and we are so thankful for everything he does for our mission. When he is not volunteering, John loves spending time with his grandkids; going to his grandson’s wrestling matches, and enjoying trips to Point Pleasant for fun-filled days on the boardwalk. Thank you, John, for all you do—you’re truly making a difference!
