HDSA Convention

The time has come, HDSA’s 40th Annual Convention is next week! It is HDSA’s biggest event of the year and it is packed with camaraderie, research, lots of amazing information, and fun. It’s always so special to see the community come together for this event. You can find more information here.
In my 6 years at HDSA, Convention has always been my favorite event. Nothing beats spending four days with the community, everyone from seasoned Convention veterans and first timers, to social workers and clinicians. It is a place to meet up with old friends, make new friends, and learn something new. It is a place where I finally get to put faces to names and voices I have heard so many times over the phone. It’s a place where I finally get to give, and get, that much needed hug. It is a place to truly celebrate the HD community.
What Makes Convention Special?
Each year brings a new set of memories, whether it is your first Convention or your 20th. Every Convention is uniquely its own and special in its own way. I had only been working at HDSA for three weeks when I attended my first Convention in Boston in 2019.
One of my favorite things about Convention is that I always learn something new. The things I have learned have helped improve my ability to serve the community.
Disability Sessions
One of the most exciting changes that I have seen over the years is the growth in disability content. We went from having about one disability session to having six sessions this year! The sessions include:
- Genetic Testing: Understanding Predictive Testing, Insurance, and Legal Implications
- Maximizing Independence and Financial Security: A Comprehensive Guide to ABLE Accounts for Individuals with Disabilities
- What HDSA Can Do for You: Disability
- Applying for Disability Panel
- Disability Rights and HD
- HD on The Job: Working While Living with HD
I am so excited that we are offering all of these sessions. I am even more excited because all of these sessions are an opportunity to meet new faces, answers more questions, and continue to educate the community. One of my greatest passions is to educate and advocate for the HD community.
If you have questions or want to say “hi,” please don’t hesitate to find me at Convention! You can find me at one of the disability sessions, running around, or connect with me through the HDSA Convention App.
