On Friday, January 27, 2023 the King’s College men’s hockey team will faceoff of against Alvernia University at the Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston, PA at 7pm. The great on-ice action between the two conference rivals will also be raising funds and awareness for Huntington’s disease. All proceeds from the game will support the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) mission to improve the lives of everyone with Huntington’s disease and their families. One of those families is King’s College sophomore forward Jack Cooper.
The night will include a 50/50 raffle, Chuck-A-Puck contest and fans can purchase special game-worn King’s College HD awareness hockey jerseys. Can’t make it to the game? No problem! Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. Each child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene that causes Huntington’s disease. Today, there are over 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. The symptoms of Huntington’s disease are described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s – simultaneously.
