Title: Assistant Director, Corporate & Foundation Development

Reports to: Director of Development

Position Description
The Assistant Director, Corporate & Foundation Development is the lead team member responsible for securing corporate and foundation funding that advances HDSA’s mission and reflects the Society’s priorities and needs. As the main steward of corporate/foundation relationships, the position interacts with a full range of corporate and foundation relations responsibilities including: identifying and researching prospects, cultivating prospects, writing proposals, solicitation/submission, tracking and
stewarding proposals, and the stewardship of foundation and corporate funders. This Assistant Director, Corporate & Foundation Development will be responsible for raising $2 million in 2022 from existing and new organizational relationships.

This is a fulltime, exempt position based in our New York City headquarters. The Assistant Director, Corporate & Foundation Development reports to the Director of Development, at times works closely with the Chief Mission Officer and Chief Executive Officer, and plays a key role in executing the goals of the corporate & foundation development components of the development program.


Position Responsibilities

-Successfully manage a portfolio of current and prospective corporate/foundation donors at various levels of support and stages of development.

-Research and identify a range of grant opportunities and work to create a robust pipeline to support the Society’s short and longterm fundraising objectives.

-Develop proposal concepts by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, and studying requests for proposals (RFPs) that align with the mission of HDSA.

-Prepare strategies and briefings for meetings with foundation and corporate partners.

-Compose grant proposals based on the Society’s priorities/mission or other funding opportunities such as: Annual Convention, Team Hope, Celebration of Hope, FreezeHD, Community & Social
-Support Programs, HDSA Research Programs.

-Adhere to timelines for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal. Track all submitted grants, prospective funder grants, and donor/prospect communications in DonorView (HDSA’s database).

-Cultivate and steward relationships with existing and potential funders, demonstrating sensitivity in handling confidential information.

-Expand the corporate and foundation base to support the strategic planning goal of yearoveryear fundraising growth in 2023 and beyond. Ensure compliance with HDSA policies and procedures and external (donor/IRS/legal/watchdog) requirements are implemented and modeled.

-Assist the Director of Development with the preparation of annual budgets and income projections for the corporate and foundation budget lines and regularly review revenue and expenses, progress to goals, and the status of pledges and gifts.
-Stay aware and informed of the status of the HD drug development pipeline, HDSAfunded research, and HDSA mission programs and services.

-Maintain collaborative team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the society’s achievement of goals, and help foster a positive work environment.

-Consistently apply the society’s organizational values of HD Families First, Honesty & Integrity Always, Respect, and Collaboration in everything we do.

-Develop a personal commitment and understanding of Huntington’s disease and those who have it, and be able to articulate the programs of HDSA that need support.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and minimum four to six years nonprofit or other related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
-Grantmaking experience in the healthcare/pharmaceutical/biotech industries preferred.

-Excellent written, presentation and communication skills with the ability to deal with sensitive issues, both directly and passionately, to garner support for HDSA’s mission.

Must possess a high level of independence to prioritize, meet deadlines and accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
-Experience building and maintaining relationships with fundraising constituents.

-Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, DonorView or other fundraising database).

-Willingness to travel (25%) to cultivate and steward HDSA organizational relationships
