The Influence of Leisure Activities on Quality of Life of People with Huntington’s Disease

My name is Molly Tibbetts and I am an occupational therapy graduate student at Worcester State University in Massachusetts. I am looking for individuals with Huntington’s disease in the Massachusetts area to participate in a study involving three brief research surveys. I have had the opportunity to work with quite a variety of people over the past few years; however, my most memorable, powerful experiences come from the interactions I have had the opportunity to have with people who have Huntington’s disease. Through my experiences, I strived to understand the diagnosis as much as possible, searched for current research. I found the research was very limited when it came to leisure activities, and quality of life. I would like to work on resolving this gap with my own research. I would like to research how leisure activities effect your quality of life using three assessments (the Life Satisfaction Scale, the Leisure Satisfaction Measure, and the Demographic/Barriers to Participation Survey). While you will not have any direct benefits as a result of your participation, your help today will help us better understand how activities can affect quality of life for a person with Huntington’s. The entire session will last about 15-30 minutes. If you are interested in finding out more information, or would like to participate in this study, you can contact me by e-mail (mtibbetts@worcester.edu) or by contacting your local support group leader.
